[AJD] AR update

Tommy:

Making good progress. Nothing out of the ordinary so far. Might want to
consider putting some top-lube in the gas when you first start running it.
May smoke a little but it might keep a valve from sticking.

I have a habit of draining all oil cavities and filling them up with
Kerosene or Diesel fuel and then figure out a way to get all the internal
parts moving, loose and lubricated before trying to run it. Out here the
cavities will probably be more than half water anyway.

I put diesel fuel in my 60 that was stuck, broke it loose with a bar, and
then had my wife pull me around with the 620, in gear, and really gave the
whole engine and drive train a workout but didn't run it. Started out with
no compression on one cylinder but after a few trips around the yard the
compression came right up.

When I finally tried to start it, it popped right off. Well, not quite so.
On the first try I had the plug wires reversed! :-) Man, the sound of
getting the tractor running the first time is one of the best parts of this
hobby!

However, to really get the inside of the crankcase clean it takes some
manual cleaning and then using detergent oil and getting the tractor up to
temperature. Doesn't take long for that detergent oil to clean stuff up. But
be careful, the engine needs to be fairly clean before you use detergent
oil. Or it can create problems.

Subject: [AJD] AR update

We worked on the AR more tonight. Made good progress. Took the hood off and
then took the valve cover off and everything inside looks pretty good to
me. No real signs of standing water just some surface rust. The push rods
are loose and all valves move. The first valve on the left side sticks but
I sprayed it so it may loosen up. Let about a gallon of water drain out of
the crankcase before taking the plug out. I'd sure like to get the pistons
moving without having to take the head off. Not much progress on the brakes
yet. Four new pictures on Fotki. See the link below if you'd like.
Thanks.....TW
