The original Co-op Tractors were the models 1, 2 and 3 and
were made in Battle Creek Michigan by the Cooperative
Manufacturing Company. The model 1 Used a Waukesha 4 cylinder
engine and the 2 used the small Chrysler 6 cylinder engine and
the 3 used the big Chrysler six.. These tractors were designed
by Dent Parrett and were essentially Parrett tractors marketed
by the various farm co-ops.
Co-op tractors through the years have also been made by
Arthurdale Farm Equipment Corporation in Arthurdale, West
virginia. Also Farmers Union Central Exchange in Saint Paul,
Minnesota and by National Farmers Machinery Co-operatives in
Shelbyville, Indiana. Farmer's hometown and TMCOTKU.

The Duplex Machine Company name also appears as a
manufacturer of the early Co-op tractors. They were also located
in Battle Creek and may have been an earlier name to the
Co-operative Manufacturing Company.

The later E series tractors were manufactured by Cockshutt
and sold under the names of Cockshutt, Co-op and Gambels

Again this Information comes from C.H. Wendel's Standard
Catalog of Farm Tractors. This is a publication that would be a
good addition to and collector's library. The edition I have was
published by the Krause Publishing Company in 2000.

                    Gene

: Its true that most of the Co-op machinery was actually
Cockshutt with orange
: paint and different decals. My Cockshutt 40 and 50 for
example were
: marketed by Co-op as the E4 and E5. I've got a few spare hoods
here and at
: least one has the Co-op decal. Same treatment was applied to
the combines in
: the 1950s. Cockshutts with orange paint. For a visual
comparison check out
: one of my favourite harvest lineup photos from the old days.

: I'm pretty sure there was another line of Co-op tractors
though in the late
: 40s. Had a Chrysler flathead six as I recall. In fact I'm
pretty sure I have
: a picture of it here somewhere.
