Ok, it sounds like I don't understand the various generator configurations
at all. I better do some more homework before I embarrass myself even more.

All the three brush Delco generators I have seen also had the band around
the brush access. The third brush limits the current output and usually had
only a cutout for preventing discharge druning shutdown. But some of the
Delco third brush generators did use a voltage regulator.
