[Steam-engine] large scale deposits

  Gals and Guys;
 Just want to take this opportunity to thank all of you who replied to my 
feedwater questions!!  I appreciate it.

  Well yesterday I smacked the side of the boiler and huge chunks of scale 
fell down..some so big I had to break them in order to get them thru the 
handhole.  I'm thinking now of using a rivet gun with a LARGE AREA 
attachment and get out as much scale as possible.  Kind of concerned about 
this plugging up the blow down port/valve.  This is coming off the inside of 
the boiler shell.

  Or should I dissolve this stuff with soda ash and/or the approved methods 
of cleaning?
