Cecil, try unplugging the EGR valve and see if the surge goes away. You may
set an EGR code doing it but it won't hurt anything. The computer checks to
see if the EGR is working but it can't tell if it is working too much. When
it works too much you get a bog off idle and a surge but no codes. A leaky
TBI base gskt will cause high idle speed. Another thought is the fuel
filter. The pump has enough pressure to push through a plugged filter but
it causes power loss and eventually burns up the pump from being overworked.
