[AT] reducing noise on portable generator

I have 2 5500 watt diesel generators.  One is sound attenuated and the  other 
is open.  all the manuf did is to enclose the generator with a sound  
deadening material on the inside of a metal box that encloses the  generator.  I have 
an air compressor that has the same thing... Just some  type of sound 
deadening material.  The mufflers are the same on both  generators.  If you look at 
the later power stroke fords, they lengthened  the bottom of the block to lower 
the sound.....  Much of the noise comes  from combustion noise....
