You might want to consider an external USB hard drive.  Then you not only 
have the contents of your onboard drive stored safely in another location 
but you can also take your  files with you and access them from another 
machine.  They are down in the less than $100 price range now.   I'm 
planning to pick one up soon for my laptop.
