Last Friday had a beautiful day at the Michigan
Flywheelers Museum. Every spring we hold a Farm
History Day for local school children. Weather was
fantastic and so were the kids.
Had a record turnout of almost 1100 children and
chaparones doing things like making candles and
quilts, drawshaving logs and bucking cookies off them
to take to the blacksmith to be branded, and playing
games like their great-grandparents did. Had a bunch
of other hands-on projects that I didn't see. We also
had our shingle mill and sawmill running (I was
"forced" to be the sawyer <VBG>). Terri and friends
were demonstrating churning butter for everyone to
try. One of the members brought a petting zoo and
best friend Larry ran our newest donation, a corn
grinder.
What a way to start the season off, good friends being
able to play with our toys, the best of weather, and
over a thousand voices making happy noises! Man, the
hobby doesn't get much better than this.
