Ivan, you can just keep going as you have been---you can shut down and start
up at will with the dsl; start up, and you will be connected. Slick!
You really want to have a firewall between you and the net---if you just
have the one puter connected, a software firewall would be the way to go.
If you have a switch/router so multiple puters can access the net, there
should be a hardware firewall in that unit.
I like the idea of sensitive stuff being on an external drive---that really
minimizes your exposure.
All that aside, ain't the high speed great??!!

Subject: [AT] OT : ! puter question for dsl
We finally got the chance to go from dialup to dsl out here . I am used to
turning my pc off at night and when we go away . But since dsl is always on
what happens ? As a security measure all my tax records and sensitive
stuff are moving to a external drive so they can be only accessed when
plugged in . Thanks , Ivan
