I suspect used won't be much less expensive if the salvage yard is checking
what JD is doing with their prices. You might have your local JD dealer do a
Nationwide JD dealer search and if any pop-up, you might get lucky and find
a dealer willing to sell an old part they have had in inventory, for some
time, at a rational price. It wouldn't surprise me if this part was sold for
less than $44 a year or two ago.

I am having an incredibly difficult time finding a part that I thought would

be reasonably available.

It is a dust cover that mounts on the front of the bottom third of the 
flywheel bell just behind the oil pan on my model 40.  It is a semicircular 
piece about 3 by 10 inches and is mounted by two screws.

I would appreciate any advice as to where to look for such a used part.  I 
have struck out so far.  I know there are good sources for this kind of 
thing but I am still discovering them.
