I have a stainless S&W snubnose 38 and you need to right next to the  target 
an the empty the gun in hopes of hitting it. On the other hand I have a  very 
early 1967 or so TC contender 17/223 that will hit beer cans at a hundred  
yards all day long. At 4000 ft. per second its real deadly. A friend brought  
over one of those new fangled 17s the other day it was smaller than 22 mag  
bullet. but fun to shoot.
