John-
Sorry we were unable to answer you. Just returned tonight from the Peosta
Expo. Valve guides are available. Valves are getting in short supply last
time I checked. Good Luck.

Subject: [AJD] GP valve guide problems

My first "restoration" 25 years ago was a GPO, #15008.
A lot of things were not done correctly, both
cosmetically and mechanically. I am now redoing it and
trying to do things right.

One of my problems is very worn valve guides that are
allowing a lot of carbon buildup. I need to either
replace or rebush the guides. I see that new guides
are not available from Deere. Are they available
anywhere else? If I were able to find new guides, how
would I proceed to remove the old ones?

My current thought is to take the block to our local
machine shop to have them put bushings in the existing
guides, then machine them to fit the valve stems. Any
opinions on this approach? The machine shop was not
sure if they could get the block properly in place on
their equipment to align and bore the guides. Any
opinions appreciated!
