LOL! That brings up an old story told about my grandfather. If you're
not into war stories, hit the delete key.

Sim Jumper (Ulysses Simpson Jumper) was the town ne'er do well, acted as
the local barber, and was enthralled with the idea of going to war.
This was in the 1890's in Colorado. War had a certain amount of fun
involved with it as far as Sim was concerned, so he joined the local
militia and did his best to get all his friends to join also. He
invited my grandfather to attend a drill meeting of the local troop one
night, so he and my grandfather rode their "wheels" (the new safety
bicycles) down to the parade ground and my grandfather watched while Sim
and his buddies went through their marching exercises.

On the way home, Sim asked my grandfather if he didn't want to join in
the fun also? My grandfather thought a minute and said, "I've been
following a horse's ass all day in the cornfield. I don't need to do it
at night, too!

Sim's unit was activated and sent to the Philippines in the late 1890's.
They took part in the Boxer Rebellion where Sim was injured in the left
elbow. He went back to the trenches after having his wound treated and
watched the slaughter of the Chinese for the rest of the day. The wound
got infected and he spent several months recuperating on a hospital ship
in Tokyo bay. When he came back to Colorado, he went back to barbering,
but the lure of quick riches doing hard rock mining was too great for
him and he ended up prospecting in the mountains of northern New Mexico.
