The new needles are in, and the baler has worked pretty well so far. Not only did the new needles not break or bend (yet, anyway), but the baler tied a much higher percentage of the knots than it had been doing. It may have been the different brand of twine, it may have been the cleaning out, or it may be the new needles. The missed knots all seemed to be due to the string breaking near the right needle. Loosening the string tensioner seemed to solve that. As long as the welds holding the brackets that hold the needles don't break, the baler may not be frustrating for a while. I may no longer even need to ride on top of the bale chamber tying knots.
