[AT] carburetors On topic (kind of)

First off, sorry about the continued (OT) content but I am trying to improve
my tractor haulin' truck and the knowledge here is so great. Now for
Charlie's comments. I'm not looking for hot rod performance or fast freeway
speeds. I'm not in a hurry and running 60-65 MPH should keep the slightly
below 3000 RPM. Dad's old 1 ton used to run 60 MPH @ 3000 RPM and it had
4.56:1 gears. I also think that this engine should be quite a bit snappier
than it is. When you drive it you can feel the torque from the big cubes.
I can't help but feel that it has a lot more to give. The low end torque is
what I want as this is a hauler. It only gets driven for hauling. My car
handles daily transportation. I wish that they made a 2-speed rear for a 1
ton as on more gear would make this engine happy on the open highway. If I
were a good Q-jet man I would stick with one of those but I'm not. BTW this
is a 1974 472cid. 8.25:1 compression. This one is about the most de-rated
big Caddy engine out there. I think the lower comp makes a good truck
engine as the bottom end should hold up better than one with 10:1 from about
1970. At $300 for engine & trans both guaranteed to work these big cubes
were to cheap to pass up.
