Let me be sure what you are talking about.  If the nut is loose but does
not come off, the nut has been over-torgued in the past and has broken
the
stud mounting loose from the oil filter head.  If this is the case the
oil
filter head has to come off.  This is one major!!!job.  Requires taking
off the crankcase cover, disconnecting all the oil lines,using some
method
of keeping the broken paart from turningand removing the stud from the
filter.  This is the reason I always carry a cressent wrengh with me
when
I go to auctions.  I learned the hard way about loose filter Nuts.
