There are different types of tubing.  This is from the Grainger on-line catalogue:

Copper tubing for Air Conditioning:
1/4"  1406 psi
3/8"   984 psi

Type L:
1/4"    912 psi
1/2"    722 psi
3/4"    582 psi
1"      494 psi

Type M:
1/2"    494 psi
3/4"    407 psi
1"      337 psi
