Sounds like an EX fire ladder. Depending on why it was taken out of
service and how long ago would be the big questions.
100 foot is nothing. Ask a NYC Fireman about the ladder test they do as
part of qualification as a fireman.
The test the last I knew was for a ladder team (6 man team) to pull a
75' Bangor ladder off the rig, carry it inside, erect it Vertically,
stabilize it with 5 people and then one at a time to climb to the top,
go over and back down the other side in full gear. Want to try? Our
department has a 75' foot ladder, Bring your own team and eat your
Wheaties before trying to erect that monster....
Personally I would rather go up on a 100 foot ladder than in a truck
like Ilion NYs 102' Platform. At least with the ladder you have a way
down if the pumps failed.
