[This came from another tractor group. I guess this would work, assuming
that your carburetor has a drain plug at the bottom - not all do. This
would go a long way to determining if a problem is fuel related or not. MS]

Tractor Tip
Checking Your Carburetor's Fuel Bowl Level

Purpose: to check the fuel level in your carburetors float bowl while
your tractor is running.

Get a short 1/8" pipe nipple.
Fasten a piece of clear plastic tubing to the nipple.
You may have to use a small clamp.
Shut off the tanks sediment bowl valve.
Remove the carburetors drain plug and thread the nipple in it's place
(the plug is 1/8" pipe).
Hold the free end of the tubing above the carburetor.
Turn the fuel shut off back on.
You will be able to see the level of the fuel in the bowl and whether
or not it stays at this level while the engine is running.
If it does not, you probably have fuel blockage problems
*(check the 3 filter screens).
The needle valve and/or the carburetor float may also need servicing.
* the 3 filter screens
1 is located at the bottom of the fuel tank directly above the
sediment bowl.
2 is located in the sediment bowl.
3 is located inside the fuel tubing as it enters the carburetor.
