[AJD] Generator 6V

Based on the post by Gary, the 40 and 430 use the same generator. Better
double check the number of brushes in the 40 generator. I sold my 40 in 1978
and memory is fuzzy, but it might have had 3 brushes anyway. During the
transition to voltage regulators, some of the generators still had three
brushes, the voltage regulator had contacts for the cutout and a voltage
regulator coil. The third brush controls maximum amperage output- excessive
amperage output will fry the generator. Some of the two-coil regulators had
one coil with two windings and served to regulate both voltage and amperage
with that one coil. It did neither precisely, but usually did so adequately.
I am highly confident that the M generator will work well with a voltage
regulator, the third brush will still control maximum amperage output. The
regulator would improve the sytem. I have not personally added a regulator,
but it has been done many times by others.

A quick persual of some parts catalogs indicate that the M uses a Delco
Remy #1101857 with a John Deere #AM1821T which is apparently a sub for
AM741T or perhaps AM 741T is a sub for AM 1821T.

The 430 uses Delco Remy 1101589 John Deere #AM1803T.

The 40 and the 430 use the same generator. I suspect the difference in
between the Delco Remy 1101857 and Delco Remy 1101859 is described in
Bus Driver's email.

Hope this helps,

Gary
