Ralph if it has a mag the very low voltage  allows the point to last almost 
forever.  !2 volt system however will eat  them up fast. I have seen points in 
old mags that were at least 20 to 30 years  old and still looked like new. 
Now the carb, I bet it needs to be taken down  and rebuilt it sounds like it 
has set a few months and gummed it up some. Most  fuels now have a lot of 
cleaner in them but if they set for a long time they  will gum up.  I don't know 
if you are old enough to remember when we didn't  have carb cleaner in the fuel 
but back before 1955 you had to get your carg  gummed out about once ayear to 
keep things running then Atlantic Richfield came  out with the first carb 
cleaner and put a lot of people out of  business.
