Couple of other thoughts:

I had some cheap California wine one time that had an old rubber 
flavor.  Maybe this M was set up to be a grape squeezer.  It could do a 
lot more than people with bare feet. (grin)  On the other hand, perhaps 
some poor farmer's wife thought that going fishing was  big waste of 
time.  The guy had to rig this tractor to sneak out on the lake for a 
couple of hours while the Mrs. thought he was doing field work.
