Grant,
I live in the salad bowl  (Salinas Valley) just south of you for 13 years I 
was amazed at how much lettuce  one little valley can produce. During the 
drought they had 7 plantings instead  of the usual 5 now that's what I taking 
advantage of a bad situation.
I miss  all the free veggies when I lived there.
