Also.. after soldering.. hold the float in a glas of hot water, and look for
any micro-streams of bubbles.. these would identify pin holes.. leaks.. etc,
as the air expands from the warmth.
As a second thought.. that POR17 gas tank sealer may be able to be dabbed on
in a thin film around leaky seams or a pin hole. An amount needed to seal a
hole shouldn't weigh much more than solder...
