[AT] Antique tractor tool advice needed - THANKS

This sounds like a great possibility. I will check it out as I really need
to have that working. It does seem like a relatively short lifespan for the
cap though. Thanks to all who have replied on this thread.
I should mention that I had checked most of the other suggestions
mentioned. I tested the holding the clamp and all other variations on pickup
angle. The first thing I tried was wiggling wires and checking the
connections of the wires to the timming lamp body. Also, the behavior on the
intermittent lighting of the light was one I first observed on the ranch
John Deere Gator. Initially I thought it was that there was a faulty
ignition component only, but after replacing the coil (rather expensive) on
the John Deere, I discovered the same behavior on other engines. Yes, the
problem is more severe on weaker spark and that is part of the reason I
thought it could be a magnetization problem but the statement that the
pickup is not magnetized would eliminate that option.
So, if there are any more thoughts that are useful I will listen to them
and thanks so much for the attention and analysis.
