Ted:
Don't intend to use these for normal machining. Only for removing broken off
studs and bolts. I have heard two many stories about stuck broken off bolts
and studs coming out by themselves when using a left hand drill. Just once
I want to see that occur myself in person before I go on to whatever is
next. But if that does occur, hell will truly have frozen over so it won't
be so hot! :-)

I've never had any reason, in over 60 yrs machining, to see a reason
to use a
left hand drill unless you're drilling a rotating shaft from both ends
simultaneously.
      Why are they needed ??
I've used many Hanson- Whitney taps but they are not my favorites.
Had
alot of
them that were improperly heat treated and were too hard and snapped
very easily.
I preferred Cleveland drills and taps.
