[AJD] JB Weld, vs fixing it right?? AR Update

I bought two 1950 AR's this summer, one through
Dean, and then another one came along while looking
for parts for the first one.. (I also bought a 1936 AR
this year, but we'll leave that one alone for now)

When I got around to looking at the radiator, the
bottom tank was cracked. (Much to my suprise) It
looked like an old freeze crack.. The toss up, I
want to get the tractor together to see if it will
run.. Do I JB weld the crack and call it a day? I
have a D8 that seemed liked the whole lower tank made
of JB weld and it held water.. Now the previous owner
of the AR had broken a few bolts while trying to take
the radiator apart, so I opted to finish the job and
have the crack welded. I broke 3 more bolts, for a
total of 5. All the broken bolts were removed easy
enough, then I of course had to buy a new core,
since it was already apart.. The sandblaster finished
off the filler neck, have to get a new one of those
now, pay the cast iron welder, new gaskets and bolt
set..

The moral of the story, I wanted to spend $15 on
JB weld just to see if the tractor would run. Now two
months later and $400-500 in parts and labor, I have
a brand new radiator, and still don't know if my
tractor runs.. but it holds water!! Oh well, one
less thing to fix when I take it back apart after it
runs and reveals any other problems it may have!!

On a side note, This AR came with a DLTX-72 on
it, but is a gas only tractor. Anyone have an
opinion of running gasoline through the all-fuel carb?
I am sure it will work.. Maybe not as efficient?

Hopefully I will get to try and start the AR
before the first of the year. My radiator rebuild has
allowed me time to get the carb rebuit and a new
rebuilt distributor.

Just the ramblings if a guy with too many
projects.. I think I'll go to bed now..

              Chris
