[AJD] washing soda

>From what I know:
Washing soda is sodium carbonate (soda ash)
Baking soda is sodium bicarbonate
Chemically not the same and also washing soda was/is used for laundry but
it is not chemically the same as laundry detergents. While laundry
detergents may contain soda ash they also contain various detergents and
usually some zeolites (silicate compounds used to replace phosphates). It
is very rare to find any phosphates in detergents today as the phosphorous
contained within is blamed for "algae bloom" in lakes.
Washing soda (soda ash) is more alkaline than baking soda (sodium
bicarbonate).
You might be able to find the washing soda as sodium carbonate - I know
commercial quantities are available (50 lb. bags) but I don't know if
smaller amounts are easily available.
