What year?

I don't know this model, but on my Chevy (with a real transmission not a
slushbox :) the LEDs indicate if the hubs are locked in. Thus when I switch
to 4WD the lights don't come on right away, and when I switch back to 2WD the
lights stay on until the hubs unlock, which can be quite some time latter
(generally when I next stop).

I'm sure my S10 has completely different parts from the truck you are looking
at though. Still my first though would be to find someplace where I can use
the 4WD, and make sure the front tires really are spinning. If they are
really spinning I wouldn't worry about those "blinken lights"
