[AT] Portland Handicap Permits

    Ivan;
I started out by volunteering my tractor to run the
threshing machines and helping with the work there. Since then I
have gotten to know a lot of the directors and officers and I
always ask where they need the help.
I am sure the women would welcome help in the registration
booth and help preparing and serving meals at the barn. The
trading post is another inside job they often need help with.
They put in a lot of hours there. They often need help in the
souvenir stand. Maybe they can sell more calendars if people
know about them.
We have done most of our volunteer work on the days before
the show begins. There are many jobs that need to be done a
couple of days before the show starts.
Work day is always scheduled for the last weekend in April
to prepare for the swap meet and summer show. They all
understand that people are not able to come from the long
distance that they do for the show, but asking at the show will
establish a lot of goodwill between us. Just getting acquainted
with the directors establishes a good working relationship.
I will be asking them out there where help is needed and
don't be surprised if I come back to camp and say you have
volunteered to help. (grin).

                        Gene
