Gene
Glad to hear the paint helped your deck. Last year, a friend who runs a very successful small engine/mower shop suggested spray on bed liner for undercoating decks. I did this with the JD that I mow my large yard, my mothers larger yard as well as her rent houses and my son/s house. It really has held up and protected the deck from rust and wear also I think. This spring, I replaced the bearings in the blade towers and we seem to have a rust problem in our humidity in the bowl around the towers. I wire brushed this area, sandblasted and coated it with bed liner also. I will see how it protects the top now. I aslo coated the underside of the deck on the 110 JD that we restored. I usually just keep the little breaking plow on it, not the deck, but it is protected anyway. I have considered coating my finish mower also. Spring and the grass is really growing and some of us idjits keep adding fertilizer.

Subject: [AT] Mower Deck Coating

A few months ago someone posted a question asking what to
paint the underside of a mower deck to keep grass from sticking.
I have had the same problem on my John Deere 240 and last
week after spending 2 hours scraping the grass from the deck, I
decided to do something about it.
For the last couple of years I have been pondering the idea
of coating the underside of the deck with epoxy resin. So after
getting all the grass scraped out, I cleaned the deck with my
angle grinder and wire brush and then sandblasted it. After a
light sanding and cleaning, I mixed a batch of epoxy resin and
painted it on.
Today I finally had a chance to try it out and it is amazing
the difference it has made with the mower. The grass doesn't
stick at all and blows out much more freely. The grass comes out
almost completely whole and not mulched up like it did before. I
was able to mow a gear faster and not even work the governor. I
mowed my lawn in 4th gear and my airstrip in 5 th gear. The
finish of the mower is much better too.
This is too good not to pass along.

                        Gene
