Charlie,
When I was little the only way I would eat rice was with milk and sugar. You
are right - it's good.
In another post you mentioned the local method of cooking chickens. Here we do
something similar - but with the Western NC sauce as you mentioned. The first
chicken I had like that was for a fund raiser for the local volunteer fire
department - I've got a copy of their sauce recepie - man is it good! Now the
fire department is funded by taxes (still volunteer) so they don't cook the
chicken anymore. This has spawned a local industry - people with pig (chicken)
cookers who will prepare the chicken for various groups to resale. In fact my
church held a "port-a-pit" chicken dinner last weekend. Good chicken but not as
good as the original.
