Phil,

They were worn nearly flat across, much like the ones I took off my M.

That was a typical J.D, at of least the ones we had. It was impossible to 
tell whether it would start on the 4th pull or the 400th.  The adults had 
given up and the kids pulled it the last 300 times and had it running.  :-) 
Note the worn spot on the grass
