With your 1/8" material you would only need two attached so that they were
on intersecting sides.

Should work well with hot glue, just enough to hold in place while the
socket is placed on the plug.

HL, that is a thought I had not considered. Hmm, now do I have 1/16"
material - steel of course. I might have some 1/8 which would be easier for
me. The glue type is an interesting question too.
