[AT] OT; Gasoline prices + on topic socket question

Those of us lucky enough to be on the West Coast are blessed with a lack of 
competition in the fuel market. The local prices vary between $2.55 and 
$2.96 per gallon depending on where and which brand.... In the Bay Area it 
has topped $3 in a few places. California diesel prices are higher than 
gasoline prices and are the highest in the nation (hemisphere?). This is due 
to several factors, but the shutdown of refineries to maximize profits plays 
an interesting part.
