We always use Hy-tran but I would think any hydraulic fluid would work.
Hy-tran used to also be available in quart containers. Your Cub Cadet dealer
might have these in stock. Obviously it won't be labled Hy-tran but should
be the same stuff if it is for the older Cadet hydrostatic transmissions.
I can't remember the capacity or wether to fill it with the lift arms up or
down but I always just leave the fill plug out and work the hydraulics a few
times to remove air. I check the level by sticking my finger in the check
hole and seeing if I can touch the fluid. Again you'll have to determine if
the arms need to be up or down to allow the most fluid in the resevoir.
There is a metal screen on the side of the hydraulic unit held in place by
4 bolts. Might not hurt to pull it out and wash it. There is a gasket there
so I would be careful not to mess it up unless I had one.
