[AT] OT Need FAX Machine Advice

First, if you haven't bought a fax machine in a while, you should know the
new ones won't pick up if a fax machine isn't on the other end and they
will pick up if they do hear a fax machine (they can detect the sound even
though your phone is still ringing).  A fax-phone-modem director/switch is
the answer if you do have a dumb fax.   This little device listens on the
phone line for the tell-tale sounds of a fax(like the newer faxes) or a
modem call and routes to the device based on what it hears.   If it hears
nothing, it assumes a voice call and sends it to the phone.

There are a many others on the market.   Shop around as it has been so long
since I have purchased one.
