[AT] OT Personal weather station/computer?

One of the items we use for a port replicator on notebooks that do not have
serial or parallel ports is a USB port replicator made by Targus.

My suggestion is to go to Ebay and to a search for "Targus Port Replicator".
This may or may not work, however, as many PDA synchronization tools will
not work through "Serial over USB"...

Plus, this way, if you have a parallel port printer, you can print with the
notebook as well...

Subject: [AT] OT Personal weather station/computer?

Hi,

I recently ran across a deal on a La Crosse technologies weather station
that I couldn't pass up. It came and is very impressive. I haven't had a
chance to hook it up yet but I have a question for the computer savy among
us.

The instruments have output and software to display and record data on a
computer. This is done via a phone wire with a typical phone connector on
one end and a 9 pin female com connector on the other. I would like to use
my notebook computer to record data (at least part of the time. I have a
desk top available too) but I don't have a com port on my notebook. I only
have USB and the phone cord type data ports. My notebook is a fairly new
Toshiba Satellite. Can anyone tell me what I need to do or what adapters I
might need to connect the weather station to the notebook?

Thanks

Charlie
