[AT] AC magneto woes

I pulled my AC C out of the pole barn last week, the first time in four
years. After some fresh gas it fired right up and me and the kids drove it around
the field for a couple of laps. It ran out of gas at the far end of the field
(as they always seem to do) and by the time I got back to it with a gas can,
I couldn't get it started again. After multiple trips with multiple tools, I
finally concluded that I wasn't getting any spark. I pulled the magneto cover
off and found out that the fiber gear has stripped and things were no longer
spinning they way they should. I remember having trouble with the fiber gear
before and having to replace it. Is there any reason why I keep stripping the
gear? Why would anyone have such a weak point built into a magneto? Is
there a replacement that's not fiber? Is there something else I should be looking
for that's causing the gear to strip out? It might be another four years
before I drive it again, but I hope not.
Thanks for your help.
Enjoy, Joe
