A lot of times a visual test is misleading.  Light, condition of the ground
you are letting the spark jump too(always test to the base of the magneto),
weather conditions, etc all play into how the spark "looks".  In addition,
an 8000 volt spark is low and looks weak but will run an engine all day
long.   If you feel sure the spark is weak, and after ruling out spark
plugs, spark plug wires, and distributor cap, the coil is most likely the
culprit.
