Morning all, Been burning the midnight oil getting
things ready for our local show. You know, all the
stuff you put off till the last minute cause there's
lots of time left, NOT! :-P
Had to rebuild a spare motor for Terri's Minute-Miser
so she can get around the grounds. Of course the best
spare was slightly different than the original spec so
had to make some modifications. You know the
scenerio, should be a one evening job, takes four long
nights. I know, do I really expect otherwise?
"Should be" more reliable now than at Portland, man I
hope so.
Now all that's left is to get the camper ready, move
my toys, and truck the steam engine to the
showgrounds. #3 son is stopping by to help with that
today. I will have to admit loading and unloading
that beast is really NOT one of my favorite jobs and
driving truck ranks down real low also. Maybe next
year we'll have the 'new' lowboy finished with winch
and all and make the job easier.
My assistant at work is not really looking forward to
me being gone a second week in less than a month, (oh
well, one of the perks I've earned over the years).
He will be able to handle it and the owner will keep a
close watch so he doesn't get to overwhelmed.
Loved Portland so much Terri and I are already
starting to make plans for next year. Maybe we can
see the half of the show we missed this year. :-) I
wonder, is it possible to see all that show? George,
you are very correct, very similar to Oshkosh, but
much better!! #3 son Mark figures next year he'll
have enough vacation to at least make a long weekend
of it. He would be like a kid in a candy store.
By the way, if anyone knows of a J-D 'R' that's
available, running with straight sheet metal and all
the parts, for around $150 or so let me know, Mark
would be interested in it. (And who wouldn't)? <VBG>
Now for a word from our sponsors. If any of you
aren't busy this next weekend and want to visit a nice
little show that's rather laid back, come on over to
South Haven, MI and visit the Michigan Flywheelers
Museum, Thursday though Sunday, Sept. 9-12. Visit
www.michiganflywheelers.org for more information.
Love to see you there, I'll be easy to find, across
the road from the office steaming corn with the
Nichols & Shepard. Thursday evening is one of my
favorite events, the tractor cruise into town for
dinner. It's about a 4 mile trek, escorted by the
county's finest, first down to the lake shore and then
we're on our own for a few hours then we meet and
drive back to the grounds. Kinda neat, last year we
had something like close to 75 tractors, lots with
trailers so probably close to 200 people riding all
around town. People in town watch us just like a
parade, what a hoot!
Well I guess I have talked enough, have to get the
semi ready to move the steamer. Have a wonderful and
safe holiday.
