A friend and former coworker of mine from West Plains, Mo. was seriously
injured yesterday (Wed.) in a freak accident. He was brush hogging when the
loader on his tractor snagged a large wild grape vine (common in this area)
which in turn broke out the top of a tree that fell on him striking the back of
his head and neck paralyzing him. His wife was out of town on a trip and he was
found approximately 36 hours later by a neighbor who decide to check on him
after noticing his garage had been open and his tractor gone for about a day and
a half. After an extensive search he found him by following the trail through
the brush the out of control tractor had left. LaRoy was air lifted to a
hospital in Springfield where they were going to put him on a ventilator today.
He is not expected to live. He had retired from the telephone company about 2
years ago so he could spend more time on his farm.
