In Maryland you can put a SMV sign on it and run it on the road.  I have 
a buddy with a Polaris 4 wheel utility veh and he runs it everywhere 
(it's a diesel and cruises at 45 mph and is cheaper to run than his 
pickup.)  He puts about 10,000 miles a year on his.
