Spencer,

We farmed with a 47 B as one of our tractors until 1964. I can't
remember the plow model but ours was a 2-14 hydraulic lift model on
steel. I remember it had a fixed tail wheel that lifted completely out
of the ground when raised for transport. It wasn't a mechanical
conversion either since it didn't have the lift mechanism on the left
(land) wheel. My Dad bought it allong with the tractor and other
equipment new in 47. The 47 B was quite a bit stronger than the pre-47
model and had no problem with this plow in any of the soils we had in
west central Illinois which included clay. It was always good for third
gear and we generally plowed 7 to 9 inches deep. Although we didn't use
wheel weights we did have maximum calcium chloride fill on the rear
tires. On thing we did find that greatly improved plow performace was to
remove the jointers and install coverboards instead.
