Len-
That reverser is made from the same wet clutch packs that the D-17 ag 
machines use for the power director.  The gearing is just set-up to  have 
the "back" position of the power director provide reverse and the forward 
position the standard gear forward.  Same arrangement was used on the HD-3 
dozer.  Clever those engineers!
