on a regular basis. He is talking about checking for safety as he travels

rather than waiting to late fate take over. I do the same thing when I'm

towing. Every time I get out of the truck I kick or hit the tires to make

sure the inflation is similar in all tires. I feel the tires to see if

one of them is hotter than the others and I feel the hubs to see if they

are heating up.

You are right, Charlie. He shouldn't worry about the way I check
out my trailers. So far, knock on wood, I have not had a problem on the
road with my trailers in the last 100K miles or so of long trips. Not much
by commercial trucker standards but quite a bit for someone who only uses
his trailers a half dozen or so times a year.

Of course I check out my trailers before I leave for a trip but
only a fool would then get in and drive long distances without checking
again. Just a little extra time spent to stop a short ways down the road
to be sure is just cheap insurance. I think I learned my lesson years ago
with boat trailers. That's where I learned the value of Bearing Buddies
too. Water used to get in the hubs and checking by jacking the wheels and
turning them by hand wasn't always enough. It was 10 miles down the road
that the damage from water and rust inside the hubs showed up on them.
