[AT] Sherman aux. tranny in 9N--lube??

John,

The bottom line is the Sherman and the Howard both get their lubrication
from the gear lube in the transmission housing/back end housing.

I have an 8N with both a Sherman (3 speed) and a Howard and a TO20 Ferguson
with the Howard. The Howard gears are mounted on the backside of the
transmission housing - if you were to split the backend of the tractor away
from the transmission housing you would see the Howard gears attached to the
back of the transmission. The Sherman gears are installed inside the
transmission housing just forward of the standard transmission gear set. As
you may know the same gear lube flows relatively freely between the
transmission housing and the back end housing. Hence, the same gear lube
lubricates both of these gear sets.

Does a Sherman aux. transmission in a Ford 9N get its lube from the
transmission oil--or what? Same question for a Howard aux. tranny in the
rear end? John W. PS: I just got a GREAT quality and VERY
reasonably priced master parts manual for the 9, 2, 8 and NAA Fords from
Faxon Auto Literature (800-458-2734). Think I'll see what else they have.

In the wide-open spaces of NE Oregon
