I planted 8 acres of wheat yesterday afternoon. I want the straw
to bale almost as much as the wheat. Of course it won't bother me to take
the money from the wheat either. :-)
I drilled it using my Super MTA and my old 10' John Deere drill I
also pull an old 10' Dunham cultipacker behind the drill. I welded a
hitch on the back of the drill years ago so I could pull the cultipacker. I
feel that it really helps the seed to soil contact a lot. The cultipacker
has an extension on the hitch made from an old sickle bar mower bar so that
I can still turn quite sharply.
It is a little late for drilling wheat here but I have had good
luck as late as the day before Thanksgiving.
I love that old MTA. I would have posted about it yesterday
morning before I started but didn't want to brag on it for fear of jinxing
it. :-) We had about a 1/2" of rain today which should give the wheat a
good start. It is supposed to be sunny for the next five days or so which
should also help give it a good start.

Also a newly created one called "100 Acre Farming" targeting folks who
operate farms from about 75 acres to 150 acres. Those are not iron clad
numbers. Midwestern farms in this class require a full line of farm
equipment unlike much smaller farms but have only a little in common with
the much larger farms common today.
