[AT] 6-volt distributor ignition

FWIW, This reminds me of a technique I used for troubleshooting the
ignition system on VW's that I owned over the years. I found that the
corrosion inside the wire sockets of the distributor cap was the RESULT
of other problems in the circuit. Yes, I had to clean it out, but doing
that wouldn't solve the problem. I found that the plug wires would
"burn" at the connectors on one end or the other and that I would have
to reinstall the clips so that the spark didn't have to arc in the wires
before it got to the plugs. Examining the plug wire sockets on the cap
told me immediately which wire was having a problem. BTW, replacing the
wires didn't keep the problem from coming back -- it simply made it go
away until the new wires developed problems.

Kyle I spent a half hour or so a few years back trying to figure out why
I
had on spark at the plugs of one of my tractors. I finally got it to
spark
and run after I pulled the plug wires out of the distributor cap and
cleaned
the ends of the wires and the inside of the cap with emory cloth. The

moral of this story is check and clean all grounds and all connections.
The corrosion is not always visible.
