[AT] OT garden rototiller

A couple of years ago, we got a really old "Horse" in the shop with the
tapered shaft, bad seals, worn bearings, etc, Mark, and we couldn't even
come up with an IPL that showed the right parts. We finally contacted
another dealer who had a paper copy (forget about microfiche, Partsmart,
etc) and he had one or two NOS parts still in inventory. He also had
been a dealer for a lot longer than we had been. :-)

Another brand that causes similar problems -- Yazoo. Try finding drive
belts for an old 76-inch mower deck sometime. Even when you find an
"old" dealer who has a personal relationship with the company, there's
no guaranty that you'll get the right parts. That thing was "fun" to
transport, too. It barely fit inside the side rails of the 8-foot wide
delivery truck, but it wouldn't negotiate the tailgate/loading ramp
straight on. Thank goodness it was well-used so we didn't have to be
super careful about scraping paint.

Larry

I've replaced that shaft with a new one from a Troy-Bilt dealer when it
gets
really worn where the seals ride. You can also put CR Speedi-Sleeves
over
the seal surfaces but two of them cost more than a new shaft the last
time I
did one. I also have a spare new shaft that my machinist buddy says he
can
duplicate pretty cheaply if Troy-Bilt quits making them.
